Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Help! I have no idea in which class to enroll my child.

Answer: See below for some helpful pointers — or email us for assistance at [email protected] or give us a call 231-526-3168.

Question: We will be visiting town for just a week and want to get signed up, but we don’t see a week long camp. Can we still get our child involved for the week? How much does it cost?

Answer: Yes you can. Contact us to see what classes are offered or go to our registration and we can arrange to have your child attend. We don’t want to leave anyone out. The membership fee and class fee will be charged.

What does The First Tee offer for my child? We offer programs to children ages 5 to 17. We teach our Key Commitments supported by 9 core values (Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment), healthy habits and golf skills. We provide golf instruction from PGA Professionals as well as other trained instructors and volunteers.

My child is only 4. Sorry. Wait until they turn 5 as they will get more enjoyment out of it then.

My kids did the camps in the past, but are interested in more. Consider enrolling them in some of our more competitive programs such as PGA Junior League, Advanced Academy or our Fall League.

My 13 year old already has experience in golf, but wants to try The First Tee. Great! We would recommend a camp or the mixed ability class for that age range. Or, feel free to contact us and we will work with you for proper placement in our classes.

Will my child be playing golf in these programs and where? Yes, most programs will include actual on course training and playing.

Is there a dress code for programs? We ask that participants wear shorts or pants and a collared shirt to class with athletic shoes. Children do not need golf shoes but should wear athletic shoes. We do lots of walking. Please avoid sending them in flip flops.

Do we have to have our own set of golf clubs? No. We do make equipment available at all programs. However, if you are interested in borrowing or obtaining your own set, please contact our Program Director, Noah Slater at [email protected].
